KPDX Portland Intl — local VFR procedures
Not for navigation. These are locally published VFR routes, reproduced with sources; verify against the official documents linked from each procedure before flight.
PDX operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with no curfew — the Port states it lacks authority to limit operational access under ANCA 1990. Its noise abatement flight patterns date from the 1983 Part 150 study and were designed to keep jets over the Columbia River.
VFR arrivals
West flow — 28L / 28R in use now
- Runway 28L Arrival Transition — 28L arrivals are noise sensitive — expect an approach to 28R with a transition to 28L.
Other local procedures
All operations — 10L / 10R / 28L / 28R / 3 / 21 in use now
- Noise Abatement Program — Jet patterns are designed to keep aircraft over the Columbia River and away from residential areas; the Port cannot require them and there is no curfew.
These routes are advisory as published — none of them is a regulation. Assigned by ATC in Class B, C or D airspace, a route becomes an ATC instruction under 14 CFR 91.123; “unable” remains available to the pilot in command. Each procedure page shows its own authority level and links its primary sources.
