How the answer is made
Enter an airport identifier and runwayinuse estimates the runway in use right now, ranked by probability, with every piece of evidence shown:
- D-ATIS — where the field broadcasts a digital ATIS, the runway assignment is read straight from it.
- Observed traffic — landings, touch-and-goes and departures detected from live ADS-B tracks.
- Wind — headwind, crosswind and tailwind components per runway end, from the coded METAR, true-north referenced.
- NOTAM closures — a closed runway is excluded outright, and the NOTAM that closed it is shown.
- Local convention — what this field actually does in this wind, learned from its own observed history.
Advisory only, never for navigation. When the evidence doesn't support an answer the page says unknown rather than guessing.
