KHHR Jack Northrop Fld/Hawthorne Muni — local VFR procedures
Not for navigation. These are locally published VFR routes, reproduced with sources; verify against the official documents linked from each procedure before flight.
Traffic pattern altitudes: light aircraft 1,100 (1,034 AGL), helicopters 700 (634), turbine and high performance 1,600 (1,534). The guide's map marks NO VFR FLIGHTS BELOW 2,500 FT MSL to the west over LAX and BELOW 1,500 FT MSL to the east. The City states the airport has no curfew: the FAA requires it be open 24 hours a day.
VFR arrivals
West flow — 25
- Runway 25 Arrival & Pattern — Arrival altitudes by entry point — Alondra Park at or above 1,500 ft, 2,500 ft until east of the 405 — with the pattern turning base over the golf course.
East flow — 7
- Runway 7 Arrival & Pattern — Right base over Hawthorne Blvd, and under no circumstances over Hawthorne High School a mile west of the field — go around rather than cut the corner.
VFR departures
West flow — 25
- Runway 25 Departure — Runway heading to the Hawthorne Mall; crosswind stays over Hawthorne Blvd with no southbound turns before the runway end; the IFR turn at 400 ft protects LAX 25L arrivals.
East flow — 7
- Runway 7 Departure — Adjust upwind right over the Lowe's parking lot, then a 45° right turn above 500 ft over the golf course to avoid IFR arrivals from the east.
Other local procedures
All operations — 7 / 25

These routes are advisory as published — none of them is a regulation. Assigned by ATC in Class B, C or D airspace, a route becomes an ATC instruction under 14 CFR 91.123; “unable” remains available to the pilot in command.
