Published by the airport sponsor; voluntary unless ATC assigns it. If ATC assigns this route to you in Class B, C or D airspace, that assignment is an ATC instruction and compliance is required (14 CFR 91.123) — and “unable” remains available to the pilot in command.
Gain altitude before the residential areas, use full length, approach on or above glidepath, and keep the pattern close and high.
The route
- Departure: attain as much altitude as possible before reaching residential areas; use full length of runway when able
- Approach: avoid long, low, high-power, high-RPM approaches; approach on or above the glideslope/VASI/PAPI
- Pattern: 1,000 ft MSL, large aircraft 1,500 ft MSL; remain as close to the airport and as high as practicable
- Practice missed approaches: reduce power/RPM when safely able after initiating the missed approach
- Runway 26R/8L has the most restrictive noise limits — louder, high performance aircraft may want to consider using other runways
When it applies
- Runway 8L or 8R or 26L or 26R or 12 or 30 — all operations The flying-technique items name no runway; the runway-choice advice names 26R/8L
