Published by the airport sponsor; voluntary unless ATC assigns it. If ATC assigns this route to you in Class B, C or D airspace, that assignment is an ATC instruction and compliance is required (14 CFR 91.123) — and “unable” remains available to the pilot in command.

Off 28L/R, delay turns until 900 ft and past Highway One, and use the over-water route across Monterey Bay when possible.

The route

  1. Commence turns following departure after reaching 900 ft, and/or after passing over Highway One departing runway 28L/R
  2. Use Monterey Bay's over-water route when possible
  3. Preferred runway heading for the standard instrument departure is 329° — make turns around the point
  4. Do not fly runway heading, unless directed by ATC, to avoid noise sensitive areas
  5. For arrivals and departures to the east: as directed by ATC

VFR PROCEDURES
For ARRIVALS / DEPARTURES to the WEST:
Commence turns following departure after reaching an altitude of 900', and / or passing over Highway One (freeway) departing Rwy 28 L/R.
Utilize Monterey Bay's over-water route when possible.
For ARRIVALS / DEPARTURES to the EAST: As directed by ATC
[Preferred Runway 28L Departures graphic:] Preferred Runway Heading - Standard Instrument Departure (329 degrees). Make turns around the point. Runway heading discouraged except under ATC direction. Do not fly runway heading, unless directed by ATC, to avoid noise sensitive areas.
