vfr arrival Airport sponsor published verified 2026-08-28 (42 d ago)
Published by the airport sponsor; voluntary unless ATC assigns it. If ATC assigns this route to you in Class B, C or D airspace, that assignment is an ATC instruction and compliance is required (14 CFR 91.123) — and “unable” remains available to the pilot in command.
From the west, stay offshore at 3,200-6,800 ft clear of Class B until south of Mt. Soledad; from the east, straight in on the ILS or RNAV 28R.
The route
- Runway 28L from the west or northwest: remain clear of Class B airspace and stay offshore between 3,200' and 6,800' on a southerly heading until south of Mt. Soledad; turn toward MYF before reaching the MZB VOR and the Class B boundary; enter left downwind and hold pattern altitude until turning base
- Runways 28L and 28R from the east, northeast and southeast: remain clear of Class B airspace and the Gillespie Field traffic area; proceed straight in on the ILS or RNAV 28R approach, or as directed, and descend at or above glideslope
- Maintain pattern altitudes until turning base
When it applies
- Arriving 28L or 28R — west flow Published for 28L and 28R. Note the June 2026 kneeboard states pattern altitudes twice with different figures — recommendation 5 gives 1400/2000 south and 1200/1600 north, the TRAFFIC PATTERNS box gives 1427/2027 — and both are quoted above as printed
