The City's own summary: "IT IS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO ARRIVE AT OR DEPART FROM MONTGOMERY-GIBBS EXECUTIVE AIRPORT WITHOUT FLYING OVER RESIDENTIAL AREAS." Field elevation 427 ft. Extremely noise sensitive areas west and south. Noise monitoring is in effect and the limits are enforced.

West flow — 28L / 28R

  • VFR Arrival Procedures — From the west, stay offshore at 3,200-6,800 ft clear of Class B until south of Mt. Soledad; from the east, straight in on the ILS or RNAV 28R.

VFR departures

West flow — 28L / 28R

  • Runway 28L/28R Departures — West/northwest via the gap north of Mt. Soledad; off 28L southbound hold centerline to avoid Royal Highlands; off 28R eastbound turn right before I-805.

East flow — 10L / 10R

  • Runway 10L/10R Departures — Centerline at best rate, reduce to climb power before I-15; westbound crosses the Seawolf Corridor at 3,200-6,800 ft after the shoreline.

  • Noise Abatement Recommendations — Requested: louder aircraft use 28R/10L, best rate of climb, reduce power before residential areas, 400 ft AGL on centerline for IFR departures.

  • Aircraft Noise Ordinance — San Diego Municipal Code: 88 dB day / 70 dB night measured in residential areas, no touch-and-go 2330-0630, fines to $250 and a three-year denial of the airport after three violations.
